Peri-Areolar Top Surgery is ideal for those who are small chested up to a B size. With this procedure, an incision is made all around the border of the areola. In addition, a second, larger concentric circle incision is made and the resulting ring of skin is removed. The breast tissue is removed and additional contouring with liposuction can be performed.

The peri-areolar technique usually allows the nipple stalk to be left intact. Sometimes, the nipple will be resized. Because the nipple stalk and nerve are not severed, sensation is often maintained.

Peri-Areolar Top Surgery typically lasts between 3-5 hours. General anesthesia is used.

Typically, after the surgery, patients are left with two drains. These are small gauge tubes that go along the incisions, under the skin, and come out with a small incision under the arm. This attaches to a small tank to collect any excess blood and fluid. The drains are left in for a few days to a week and will need to be emptied by the patient a few times a day.

Sometimes, patients will need to wear a compression binder after surgery, for 1-6 weeks. The binder helps prevent fluid build-up, aids the skin in adhering back to the chest wall, and also helps with minimizing scars.
